Financial Assistance
GCPD does not have programs that provide financial assistance to people with disabilities. Some resources below may provide what you are looking for.
Social Security
- Offers different benefit programs for people with disabilities such as:
- Social Supplemental Income (SSI) for those without qualifying work credits.
- Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for those with qualifying work credits.
- Social Security Survivor Benefits for dependents of adults that have passed away.
- Eligible applicants must have a qualifying disability as defined by Social Security which is determined through the Disability Determination Process. Make sure to check the listing of impairments to see if your disability meets criteria.
- Approved SSI applicants are automatically enrolled into Medicaid.
- After a mandatory waiting period, approved SSDI and Survivor Benefits are enrolled in Medicare Part A Hospital Benefits with the option to pay for additional Medicare coverage. Some beneficiaries may be eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.
- The Protection and Advocacy for Beneficiaries of Social Security (PABSS) program provided through Disability Rights Texas can help Texans with disabilities keep their benefits when they start working.
